WALLPIECE IV
Private Collection
This wall-mounted audiokinetic ball sculpture has many of Rhoads' inventive devices in miniature. The overall musical tone of this piece is higher and lighter than the larger sculptures. Having several balls grouped together, so that there is a cascading effect as they roll, creates exciting movement in this piece.

The sounds of this wallpiece have been compared to the delightful background noise of a water feature. This piece features a "hidden" track that can be seen through peek-a-boo windows before the balls rejoin the front tracks. The delicate look of these smaller sculptures mask their intrinsic stability and reliability.

"There's a level of mechanical genius behind the inventing of complex mechanisms; that's what George has. His kinetic sculptures act in an amazing variety of ways, the balls going from one part of the track to another, suddenly turning corners. You look at one of his pieces and get a sense of overall design, but then you must trace out the details for yourself. The enjoyment comes from seeing your expectations fulfilled."
